DSEC Co., LTD., a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), has contracted with General Dynamics NASSCO of San Diego, California to supply the design and equipment package for an additional 50,000 deadweight ton LNG-conversion-ready product carrier with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity. Construction is scheduled to begin the fourth quarter of 2015, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2017 to American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners. DSEC is now therefore providing for the design and materials of in total eight tankers, five for American Petroleum Tankers and three for Seabulk Tankers, Inc. which secured the same tankers in November last year. This new 610-foot-long tanker is a continuation of the DSEC ECO MR tanker design, which achieves improved fuel efficiency through several features, including a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine and an optimized hull form, and will be constructed with consideration for the use of LNG for propulsion in the future. DSEC is as well a designer of 3,100TEU class LNG powered containerships now under construction at NASSCO and cut the first steel in February this year. The vessel is supposed to be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2015 to be operated by the owner, TOTE, and the ME-GI engine for the first vessel was shipped on June 15th. “We are very proud to continue to introduce our high-technology to Jones Act market based on the successful partnership with NASSCO. DSEC will keep on developing the level of engineering satisfying the customers’ needs.” said Young-Man Lee, President and CEO of DSEC.
